Social Issues

The Constitution generally doesn't give Congress the power to regulate the nation's various social affairs. Accordingly, such issues should typically be reserved for the states to deal with.

There are a number of areas in which federal involvement in the past necessitates policy decisions moving forward, however.

Abortion

The abortion debate has always been highly divisive, with strong arguments on both sides. But a strongly pro-life position is the right way to go.

Education

More than 50 years of federal involvement in education has resulted in zero progress.

Gun control

A well-armed citizenry is our best defense against crazy mass-shooters who would harm the most vulnerable among us. And the Second Amendment doesn't somehow give us the "right" to bear arms; it merely points out that owning guns is a right we already have, with or without that amendment.

Affirmative action

Affirmative action programs, while well-intended, usually cause more harm than good to the very people they aim to help.

Freedom of speech

All speech, but political speech in particular, needs to be protected no matter what.

LGBTQ laws

LGBTQ citizens have the same rights as everyone else. There should be no federal laws granting them additional rights, nor taking any of their rights away.

Police reform

The misguided "defund the police" movement, awful though it is, should be dealt with at the state and local level, not federally.

The opioid epidemic

Opioid abuse largely stems from black-market drugs, sold illegally at exorbitant prices to the addicted and vulnerable.

The war on drugs

If we haven't won this so-called "war" yet, what makes us think that pursuing the same policies we've been implementing will somehow change the outcome?

Welfare programs

Many Americans have legitimate welfare needs, but government isn't the only way those needs can be met.

Racism and white privilege

Reparations and affirmative action are awful proposals to deal with a very real problem.

The separation of church and state

Avoiding an official state religion does not mean that people who work for the government can't belong to a church.

Veterans

It's tragic that America's veterans aren't given better options, particularly with regard to healthcare.
