Economic Issues

Voters sometimes assume that only government can fix our problems, when it's usually the opposite - government is the problem.

Federal spending is completely out of control. No single threat jeopardizes our future more than America's ever-growing national debt.

Even the most cynical of Idahoans should expect at least one thing from their representative in Congress - a commitment to never vote to grow the debt. Ever.

Consumer protection

Consumers are best protected by the natural workings of the free market, not by lawsuits or regulatory agencies.

Free trade / tariffs

Tariffs do more harm than good. Free trade is a win-win for all involved, leading to stronger ties, better relations, and greater prospects for peace and prosperity.

Healthcare costs

Our healthcare system is awful, and Obamacare has made it even worse. We're very far from the free market forces which could drive costs way down and make care more affordable for everyone.

DOGE cuts

DOGE cuts are great, if done the right way; not so great if they're not really cutting anything.

Government spending

Congress has no filter. Republicans and Democrats alike love to spend like there's no tomorrow. Literally.

Income taxes

Cutting taxes is awesome when coupled with federal spending cuts to offset the tax cuts.

Inflation

Excessive government spending always causes inflation, though sometimes not until several years down the road.

The Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve is like a driver with one foot on the gas and one on the brakes, at the same time. It should either be reformed or abolished entirely.

The national debt

Almost $1 trillion every year goes to paying interest on our ridiculously high debt. That's $1 trillion which could instead be invested in growing American businesses. What a waste.

Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security

Even though America's entitlement programs are unconstitutional, many of us have paid into them all our lives, and will rely on them until we're dead.

The minimum wage

Minimum wage laws hurt the very people they aim to protect. Forcing employers to pay their workers higher-than-market wages, causes higher prices, worse quality, smaller quantities, and fewer jobs, usually at the very stores where low-income people are most likely to shop.

The One Big Beautiful Bill

President Trump's signature legislation has a lot to like. But it raises the debt ceiling limit by $5 trillion, and it cuts almost that much in taxes without offsetting cuts in federal spending. Both of these things are, for me, non-starters. No way.
